Hey there, I'm Allan Rowe, LCSW! My career as a social worker in mental health has been like so many others. Full of ups and downs and uncertainties. Even how I ended up in this field is a bit of a funny story. It's mostly me being wrong about everything I thought I wanted to do for a living, but that's a story for another day.
Regardless, I did end up in mental health, and I did get to a point where I realized therapy is something I want to be a part of the rest of my career. I enjoy it, I have built great relationships with my clients, and over time gained confidence in my skills. I did, however, realize I could not work for another agency or hospital. It was time to go out on my own.
So I began to reach out to colleagues for advice on how to build a private practice, They often gave me great advice, but it felt like they were giving me pieces to a puzzle without ever showing me the picture on the box. I had the initial intent to paint this picture by creating a flowchart as a visual aid ffor other mental health professionals to use while starting their practice.
And, in true fashion, I didn't know where I was headed. That flowsheet turned into a full-fledged start-up toolbox. Even still, I had too much to offer to be contained in a simple toolbox. I then decided to offer consulting for those who want additional help navigating this process.
